District comparison at a glance
| Area | Useful context | Check carefully |
|---|---|---|
| Beşiktaş | European-side location with ferry and bus connections and access toward central university areas. | Rail access varies by neighbourhood; check the complete campus route. |
| Şişli | Connected to major central transport corridors and several university districts. | “Şişli” covers different neighbourhoods; use the exact address, not only the district name. |
| Beyoğlu | Central European-side area with links toward the Golden Horn and Taksim corridor. | Street gradient, walking distance and late-night noise differ substantially by neighbourhood. |
| Fatih | Relevant for campuses around the historical peninsula, Vezneciler and the Haliç/Unkapanı area. | Confirm whether your daily route uses tram, metro, bus or walking connections. |
| Kadıköy | Asian-side transport hub with ferry, metro and bus connections. | A cross-Bosphorus trip can add transfers if your campus is deep on the European side. |
| Beykoz/Kavacık | Relevant for universities with Kavacık and Beykoz campuses. | Check bus connections and the correct campus entrance; “Istanbul centre” is not a useful route measure here. |
| Tuzla | Relevant for universities and campuses in Istanbul’s eastern Asian-side area. | Do not compare it with central districts without first mapping your actual campus timetable. |
A better way to compare two areas
- Enter the dormitory’s exact address and your campus entrance in an official or current journey planner.
- Check a weekday morning and an evening return journey.
- Count transfers and walking stages, not only the headline duration.
- Check whether the route changes after late classes.
- Repeat the check for any second campus or hospital placement you regularly attend.
Use the Metro Istanbul network maps and the IETT journey planner. Transport information can change, so treat an old blog travel-time estimate as a starting point, not a guarantee.
Do not let district labels hide the accommodation details
After narrowing the route, return to the dormitory itself. Compare academic-season dates, room occupancy, meals, utilities, laundry, cleaning, house rules and payment schedule. A convenient district does not compensate for a room or contract that does not match your needs.
